Cricket World Cup Experience!

Following some of the children’s lessons with a Cricket organisation, Chance 2 Shine, the school were awarded a once in a lifetime opportunity…walk one of the teams on to the pitch at the Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Hampshire Bowl! 15 children were selected to represent the school and there was much excitement as they left school at 6:55am(!) on Monday 24th June.

Once the children arrived at the Hampshire Bowl, they were quickly taken to the Pavilion where they received their training and their smart uniform (which they were delighted about being allowed to keep!). Following the training, the children waited in ‘the tunnel’, before walking over to the Afghanistan Cricket team and walking on with them for the National Anthems – a proud moment for their friends and families as this footage was broadcast on Sky Sports around the world!

After the National Anthems, the children took their seats in the stands to watch the Cricket match. Just before half time, the group were told about the next part of their experience… play Cricket games in front of the crowd! There were different activities including batting, bowling and general ball skills – one of the groups was even joined by Blue Peter presenter, Radzi, for some of it.

The children had an amazing day out, especially cheering with the Afghanistan and Bangladesh fans and joining in with chants and Mexican waves!

A great day was had by all and Mrs Colbourne would like to thank Martin and Robin, the brilliant parent volunteers who helped on the trip!
